Rome Study of the royal decreesA prominent Hungarian noble family whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, the Esterhzys, loyal to the Habsburg imperial crown, served Austria in both the military and the civil service. From the 17th century onwards, the Esterhzy princes Grand Palatine Paul (1635 1713) and Nicholas I "the Magnificent" (1714 1790) built up their art collection as a testament to their magnificence. The collection reached its peak with Nicholas II (1765 1833), a
